Reno—Broadbent & Associates Inc. After more than 13 years at the helm and an impressive 32-year tenure with the company, Guerrant is stepping down from his current role. Effective August 2023, Randy Miller, current vice president, will succeed Guerrrant as the next Broadbent president.
Some environmental matters are more challenging to address. One of note involves several groundwater basins that are interconnected by a deep carbonate aquifer known as the Lower White River Flow System. The aquifer feeds a spring system that supports the endangered Moapa dace, which is a native fish species found only in the Warm Springs area in Southern Nevada. Pumping from the aquifer has been found to affect spring flows. The State Engineer in coordination with local entities and the public are attempting to manage the aquifer, which has been found to be over-appropriated. Resolutions to the matter are pending.
Earlier this month, Nevada reached a settlement with Walgreens to accept $258 million in connection with that business’ part in the opioid epidemic.
Drug overdose deaths reached more than 100,000 people nationwide in 2022. And since 1999, nearly 1 million people have died from drug overdoses in this country.
The Walgreens settlement will be used for programs and more, but they’re hardly the end. Less than a year ago, the Southern Nevada Health District issued a public warning: fentanyl deaths are on the rise.

Elko Mining Expo opens June 8 at the Elko Convention Center featuring 365 exhibitors, and one of those is Broadbent & Associates Inc., whose vice president and principal engineer, Randy Miller, described the event as “just a wonderful opportunity” for companies to communicate.
The two-day event that ends on June 9 will feature 447 booth spaces, not counting the food vendors, according to Kimberlee Longley, convention and event manager for the Elko Convention & Visitors Authority.
“We are expecting a large turnout and are excited for the ESG Panel Session scheduled Thursday, June 8, at 1 p.m.,” she said by email, reporting that the golf tournament at Ruby View Golf Course and the opening reception on June 7 were sold out. “It’s going to be a great Expo.”
The environmental, social and governance panel is open to all at no charge, with panelists from Nevada Gold Mines, i-80 Gold Corp., Kinross Gold Corp. and NewFields, and the Expo is also open to all from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 8 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 9.
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Henderson Symphony Orchestra (HSO) is set to welcome guest pianist Michael Sheppard for its last performance of the season, titled “WHAM!”
The concert is free and will take place Friday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m. at The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson.
According to HSO, Sheppard will take on the role of “The Ivory Crusader” as the last soloist of their heroes-themed season, and the concert will open with a new piece by Mason Bates inspired by Steve Jobs.
Sheppard will be performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.3, considered one of the most difficult concerti to perform. This concerto was the center of the movie “Shine” which won Geoffrey Rush an Academy Award for his role as the pianist David Helfgott.
