(Henderson, Nev.) – The Henderson Professional Fire Fighters (HPFF), in collaboration with the city of Henderson, Henderson Fire Department, American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, and PoolStar pool service & maintenance, hosted their annual “Safe Pools Rule!” press conference and “Walk and Knock,” an annual drowning prevention and pool safety awareness event. The event will take place on Thursday, May 1, at the Henderson Multigenerational Aquatic Complex/Recreation Center—Activity Pool.

The campaign kicked off with a press conference at the recreation center’s outdoor pool, where HPFF President Dan Pentkowski, along with City of Henderson Councilwoman Gerri Schroder, Henderson Fire Chief Steve Goble, Red Cross Representative Fernandez Leary, campaign model Kylie Presley, and owner of PoolStar pool service & maintenance (campaign sponsor), Katie Humphreys, spoke on the campaign initiatives and objectives.

“This initiative is a grassroots effort to ensure pool safety in the Henderson community,” said Pentkowski, who has led the campaign since inception. “Each year, the Henderson firefighters reach over 8,000 homes, raising awareness on drowning prevention through the mass ‘walk and knock’ efforts and continued community outreach and participation.”

After the press conference, local firefighters, American Red Cross volunteers, and city of Henderson lifeguards went door-to-door to spread the word to hundreds of Henderson households about the A, B, C, and Ds of drowning prevention by distributing safety awareness door hangers (funded by PoolStar pool service & maintenance). During the “Walk and Knock,” firefighters taught residents the importance of Adult supervision, pool Barriers, Classes like CPR and swim lessons, and Devices like life jackets.

To accompany Thursday’s safety efforts, Henderson firefighters have planned an additional mass “Walk and Knock” to occur Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m., beginning at Henderson Fire Station 81. In addition to handing out door hangers, volunteers will also be distributing safety awareness posters to local businesses. A Public Service Announcement will also run throughout the summer.
