(LAS VEGAS) – The Las Vegas Firefighters donated $8,300 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation on November 11. The money donated came from the proceeds of their pink “Fighting Breast Cancer” t-shirts, which were sold throughout October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Scott Johnson, president of the Las Vegas Firefighters, says, “We are proud to present this check to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in support of their worthy cause. We are grateful to our members and the community for purchasing our pink shirts, as this disease has affected many of our own, as well as many of the citizens we serve in our community.”
The Southern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen® is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.
