On Nov. 17, the Las Vegas Firefighters (Local 1285) presented a check for $4,029 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Throughout the month of October, firefighters hosted a t-shirt fundraiser where they sold specially designed “Breast Cancer Awareness” t-shirts. The firefighters wore the t-shirts on and off duty to raise awareness within the community. Additionally, they created numerous social media videos to help promote sales and increase the success of the campaign.

“Our members, family and friends, and our community are greatly affected by breast cancer and it’s a remarkable feeling to be a part of an organization that continually fights to find a cure for the disease,” said Todd Ingalsbee, vice president of Local 1285. “I am truly amazed at the amount of support that we received from our members and from the public, and I am proud that we were able to make a positive impact in the community.”

This is the third year that Local 1285 designed and sold t-shirts to ultimately donate to the Southern Nevada Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1285 is comprised of 628 fulltime members and 209 retirees. They serve to protect a city that covers 133.25 square miles (including large Clark County “islands”), nearly 610,000 residents, and several million visitors each year. They serve under the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, which is an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class One Department and is an Internationally Accredited Agency by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
