(Las Vegas) – Clark County Educators joined with the National Education Association (NEA) Pacific Region Republican Educators Caucus on August 28, 2014, to present Nevada State Senator Michael Roberson with the Pacific Region 2014 Legislator of the Year award.

Senator Roberson was nominated for this award at the annual meeting of the NEA Pacific Region Republican Educators Caucus held in Denver, Colorado. The Caucus is comprised of educators from the states of Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Nevada and Alaska. Previously, the caucus only awarded this honor to federally electedrepresentatives.

Mark Riggins, the Clark County business teacher who nominated Senator Roberson, says, “Senator Roberson stood up for public education through the 2013 Nevada Legislative Session. He reached across party lines advocating for English Language Learning (ELL) funding and class size reduction. He is well informed about the issues facing public education, and continues to lead the conversation to improve the methods and funding sources for educating students of our state.”

Davina Keiser, chairwoman of the NEA Republican Educators Caucus, presented the award to Senator Roberson who was present with his wife Liberty, at the ceremony. Senator Roberson remarked, “Receiving this award is a true honor. I take the issue of education very seriously. I will continue to work for the children of Nevada as they are the future of our community. I look forward to the next Legislative session and to once again champion education so that it becomes everyone’s priority.”
