Tronox manufacturing plant donated $5,000 to Basic High School’s Robotics Team on Oct. 21.
Tronox, a Henderson manufacturing plant, donated $5,000 to benefit the Basic High School Robotics Team, Oct. 21. This is the third year they will be serving as the team’s primary sponsor.
The Basic team, a longstanding club at Basic High School, teaches students the engineering components of robotics, and how to build robots through advanced production methods.
Mark Reed, head of the Basic High School Robotics Team says, “Since Tronox has come on as a sponsor, our team has had the ability to work on more advanced robotics machines and participate in national competitions.
“Through these competitions, the team has earned recognitions and learned from other team displays. All of this would not be possible without Tronox’s generous donation each year. We are truly grateful to have Tronox as a community sponsor and partner.”
Rick Stater, Henderson Plant Manager, says, “We are proud to give back to such a dedicated and hardworking set of students.
“Charitable giving is a huge part of Tronox’s corporate culture, and providing the means to support educational opportunities for our youth is truly rewarding for our company and employees.”
The Basic High School Robotics Team is lead by William Fitzpatrick, who started the team in 2002. The program continues to grow in numbers and capabilities each year, and is open to junior and senior students.

(Henderson, Nev.) – Robert L. Taylor Elementary School, with Tronox, hosted its third annual kick-off party to celebrate the school’s longtime robotics program on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. The club launch was held in the Robert L. Taylor multi-purpose room.
Local High School Students Teach Middle School Students About Robotics
(Henderson, NV) – On January 28, 2014, Tronox sponsored a special presentation by the Basic High School Robotics Team to the Brown Junior High School Robotics Club and eighth grade students, in order to promote participation and interest in both schools’ robotics programs.
Mark Reed, Basic High School Robotics Team instructor and leader, and Rick Stater, Tronox Henderson Plant Manager, narrated while members of the Basic High School Robotics Team gave the special presentation. During the presentation, students spoke about their experiences in robotics, national competitions, and the importance of the field. They also gave demonstrations of their award-winning robotics displays.
“This presentation was organized by Tronox to not only maintain our club’s current members, but to also promote interest among eighth grade students. We would like to thank both Basic High School Robotics Team and Tronox for organizing this effort,” says John April, instructor and leader of the Brown Junior High School Robotics Club.
Following the presentation, Brown Junior High School students were able to ask questions of the high school team members and instructor, and also test the robots displayed. Tronox also sponsored a lunch for the students.

By having experienced students give the presentation, we are providing a genuine insight into the positive experiences and educational growth brought on by participating in robotics programs.”
