(Henderson, Nev.) – On June 4, 2014, at the Robert L. Taylor Elementary School Graduation Ceremony, Tronox presented (13) Hobby Lobby gift cards to Robotics Club 5th grade graduates (in addition to (8) gift cards to 4th grade students). The Henderson Facility Plant Manager also personally donated gift cards to the school’s eight (8) President’s Awardees.
Each year, Tronox funds the Robotics Club, and also allows employees to volunteer as mentors during their normal work hours. Rick Stater, Henderson Plant Manager, got Tronox involved in the program seven years ago when club instructor, Dr. Larry Pilon, reached out to him for mentoring and financial assistance.
Stater and fellow Tronox employee, Kevin McIntosh, personally presented the Hobby Lobby gift cards to the club members during the school’s graduation ceremony. Stater then surprised the eight President’s Awardees (five of whom were also Robotics Club members) with VISA gift cards during their president’s letter and pinning ceremony.
Dr. Janet Dobry, principal of Robert L. Taylor Elementary School, is grateful for the generous donations of both the plant and Stater himself, and says, “Tronox has truly made a positive impact on our students by funding the Robotics Club, and continues to spark interest among students in the fields of math and science. I would like to thank Tronox, as well as Rick Stater, for their generous donations and special recognition of students who have gone above and beyond.”
