HENDERSON, NEV. – Tronox, LLC presented gift cards to Robert Taylor Elementary Robotics Club students and President’s Award recipients on June 4. Four Tronox representatives, Rick Stater, Tommi Bryan, Kevin McIntosh and Keenan Sanders were present to congratulate the students for their hard work and excellent participation during the school year.
Each year, Tronox helps fund the school’s Robotics Club, and encourages employees to volunteer as mentors during their normal work hours. Rick Stater, Henderson plant manager, got Tronox involved with the club eight years ago when then-club instructor Dr. Larry Pilon, reached out to him for mentoring and financial assistance. Since then, the program has continued to grow and has become a longstanding opportunity for Tronox employees and Taylor Elementary students alike.
“We are thrilled to be involved with the Taylor Elementary Robotics Club,” said Stater. “Connecting with students on this level is something we all really enjoy. We’re glad to sponsor the program and hope that it gives the students the opportunity to learn something, have fun and get excited about math and science.”
Dr. Janet Dobry, principal at Taylor Elementary, is grateful for the donations of both the Tronox plant and employees and Stater himself. “Tronox has truly made a positive impact on our students by funding the Robotics Club,” said Dobry. “Their involvement sparks an interest for math and science among the students that is so exciting to see. I’m so thankful for Tronox, as well as Rick Stater, for its generous donations and special recognition of students who have gone above and beyond this year.”
