(HENDERSON, Nev.) – Employees from the Tronox Henderson Plant recently took a day off to teach Cashman Middle School students about their profession and opportunities available in the field of engineering. This effort was part of the school’s “Careers in Engineering Day.”
(Henderson, Nev.) – Robert L. Taylor Elementary School, with Tronox, hosted its third annual kick-off party to celebrate the school’s longtime robotics program on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. The club launch was held in the Robert L. Taylor multi-purpose room.

(Henderson, NV) – On June 17, 2014 at the Henderson City Council Meeting, Tronox received a special commendation from members of the Mayor and Council for their donation of Arbor Day school calendars, which showcase environmentally friendly focused drawings submitted by local students. The calendars are sponsored by Tronox Henderson plant in partnership with the city of Henderson Arbor Day Foundation.
(Henderson, Nev.) – On June 4, 2014, at the Robert L. Taylor Elementary School Graduation Ceremony, Tronox presented (13) Hobby Lobby gift cards to Robotics Club 5th grade graduates (in addition to (8) gift cards to 4th grade students). The Henderson Facility Plant Manager also personally donated gift cards to the school’s eight (8) President’s Awardees.
Each year, Tronox funds the Robotics Club, and also allows employees to volunteer as mentors during their normal work hours. Rick Stater, Henderson Plant Manager, got Tronox involved in the program seven years ago when club instructor, Dr. Larry Pilon, reached out to him for mentoring and financial assistance.
(HENDERSON, NV)- On April 24, 2014 the Tronox Henderson plant hosted their annual “Take Your Child to Work Day” plant tour and event for their employees’ children. Nearly 30 children of all ages participated. They not only took an extensive tour of the plant, but also watched presentations on safety, thermal imaging, laboratory procedures, security initiatives, and careers in the field of engineering.
(Henderson, NV) – Tronox will be holding a company blood drive on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at their Henderson plant to encourage employees to donate blood to benefit the United Blood Services.
Last year, nearly 20 employees of Tronox joined in the cause to donate blood, and also encouraged friends and family to do the same. They donated approximately 20 pints during their summer blood drive, and hosted another drive in the fall. (more…)
Tronox Henderson plant employees, Mike Skromyda and John Holmstrom, were recently invited to take part in a proclamation presentation at the Henderson City Council meeting. The proclamation was presented to the Henderson Fire Department in recognition of Emergency Preparedness Week, an effort spearheaded by the city’s Emergency Management Department. (more…)
Local High School Students Teach Middle School Students About Robotics
(Henderson, NV) – On January 28, 2014, Tronox sponsored a special presentation by the Basic High School Robotics Team to the Brown Junior High School Robotics Club and eighth grade students, in order to promote participation and interest in both schools’ robotics programs.
Mark Reed, Basic High School Robotics Team instructor and leader, and Rick Stater, Tronox Henderson Plant Manager, narrated while members of the Basic High School Robotics Team gave the special presentation. During the presentation, students spoke about their experiences in robotics, national competitions, and the importance of the field. They also gave demonstrations of their award-winning robotics displays.
“This presentation was organized by Tronox to not only maintain our club’s current members, but to also promote interest among eighth grade students. We would like to thank both Basic High School Robotics Team and Tronox for organizing this effort,” says John April, instructor and leader of the Brown Junior High School Robotics Club.
Following the presentation, Brown Junior High School students were able to ask questions of the high school team members and instructor, and also test the robots displayed. Tronox also sponsored a lunch for the students.
